Hey, it’s Bryan from Oxide, I’m back with another FAQ Friday. And a question that we’ve gotten, especially after our last video, is:
Wait a minute, you did your own power shelf controller. Did you actually do your own root of trust? Is the root of trust on the power shelf controller as well?
And the answer is, it is.
Is that overkill? No, it’s not overkill. Why is it not overkill? Because we wanna make sure that we can measure and attest to all of the software in the system, very much including what’s on this power shelf controller. We don’t wanna have unknown firmware on this power shelf controller because let me tell you, if you control the power supplies, you can engage in all kinds of mischief and mayhem on a rack.
So that’s the reason that we have a root of trust everywhere in the system. Everything that we’ve designed, the switch, the compute sled, and even the power shelf controller have a root of trust and a full architecture for measuring and attesting our software.
