Hey, it’s Bryan from Oxide back with another FAQ Friday. A question that we’ve gotten is like:
Hey, you keep mentioning a compute sled. What is a compute sled?
This is a compute sled here. It is the Oxide computer. It plugs into the Oxide rack.
What parts do we have in the sled? First of all, we have our air shroud. This helps sculpt air as it is moving across from the front of the rack to the back of the rack, being propelled by these fans here in the back.
We’ve got our CPU here, AMD Turin. Love this big honking CPU. We’ve got our DIMMs here. We’ve got our actual DRAM.
Up front, we’ve got our storage here. I’ve got our NVMe drives up here, 10 NVMe drives per sled.
In the back, we’ve got our connectors here. These connect into the cabled backplane. We’ve got our power connector here. This is what blind-mates into that DC busbar.
Can’t take this board out, but if I could, I’d pop it out and I’d show you the underside of the board where you will find our Root of Trust. And that is where it all begins. The Root of Trust attests to the Service Processor; Service Processor is able to attest to the host operating system that runs on this host CPU.
