Hey, it’s Bryan from Oxide back with another FAQ Friday. One of the questions we get is:
How does open source firmware improve security? I know that you at Oxide have open sourced your entire stack. How does that affect security, especially in an LLM age where these very sophisticated LLMs can find vulnerabilities? Don’t you feel exposed?
No, quite the opposite. By being open source, first of all, we know that you and our customers can see the actual software for themselves. There’s no hidden software.
And yes, it does mean that LLMs can find vulnerabilities in our software. We want to find those vulnerabilities, and we want to fix them. We have always believed that sunlight is the best disinfectant. By having software be open source, we are able to get on top of those vulnerabilities faster and make our software much more secure.
Thanks, and see you next time.
